Well DB me old mucker, we did it!
A whole league program with NO called-off matches!

As much as an achievement as it is, it's a bit of a hollow victory, as without some serious investment I doubt we'll manage that again for some time. The Berks & Bucks cup was the best the old pitch has ever looked but it was hard work with that little mower.

While some clubs pay for someone to come in just to cut and mark their pitches, we're all currently volunteers and have done a bit extra too.
Besides all the pitch work, we've been beavering all around the ground this year.

Just some of the jobs we've done (and continue to do) are:

* Spot-Concreting around the ground (when needed)
* Cleaning changing rooms (after games)
* Setting up and tidying up pitch (before and after games)
* Rubbish collection both inside and outside (when needed)
* Mowing the outside lawns (weekly)
* Keeping the other grassy areas inside the ground under control (weekly)
* Cleaning the toilet area in the stand (when needed)
* Trying to get the weeds and 'Jungle' area under control (when time allows)
* Pitch marking (before games)
* Re-measuring and marking pitch (before season starts)
* Divoting and sanding (when needed)
* Re-Seeding and weeding pitch (when needed)
* Pitch watering (when needed)
* Painting - Doors, fence panels, changing room walls, toilets in stand, No-Standing areas, etc (when needed)
* Re-hanging and mending nets, goalposts, etc. (when needed)
* Replacing old or broken fence panels (when needed)
* Cleaning and caring for tools, to keep as much equipment working as we can (Continuous)
* Cutting and strimming training pitch (weekly)

So, as everyone can now see, a LOT of work and time goes into what we do.
A few people that have popped in during the mornings may have arrived just as DB and I were pausing for a Cuppa and thought we were dossing. Hopefully the above list will show that we most certainly weren't and that sometimes, you gotta have a few priorities in this job Wink

Of course, so much of this work COULD be made easier if we had the proper tools for the job, but we've had to struggle and work hard all year with a zero budget; sometimes even having to pay for things from our own pockets.
Hopefully though, this will change very soon.

This isn't a rant or anything, just a reminder of the time, effort and money it takes to do what we do behind the scenes. Smile

Big thanks also go out to April who, alongside her committee role is often down helping, and Neil who chips in when he can Smile

Onwards and Upwards!

You Gents really have gone above and beyond this season, the pitch is the best I have seen it this year and to not have a single game called off is a real credit.
As you point out, its more than the pitch you have been doing. Sometimes I used to help Mike clear the changing rooms last season and that was a mission, so I tip my hat too you for managing that all season.

You guys have done a brilliant job this season and gone beyond expectation. To go through the whole season without a pp is miraculous..You most definitely deserve a pint or 2 to say well done.
