Saturday 24th April
Nearly there! This would have been the last Saturday of the season if the weather had played fair, but as it is there is just one Saturday left. This really has been a seasonus horriblus due to the awful weather of a couple of months ago, and full credit, and top marks , must go our two Fixtures Secretaries –
All three divisions have been extremely well contested, and up until last week it would have been a brave man to have picked all three divisional winners. Two have now been decided, and congratulations go to Aylesbury for winning the Premier Division title
There were just three hat tricks on Saturday, with Craig Henney’s three in 9 minutes for Aylesbury probably the pick of the bunch, as it turned out to be these goals that clinched the Premier Division title.
In front of a large home crowd of 132, Aylesbury clinched the Premier Division title at around 4.45 as following their 4-1 win over Leverstock Green, news filtered through from Chalfont St. Peter that they had lost 2-1 to Broxbourne Boro, thus ending the two-horse race. A Lee Bircham penalty for Leverstock after just 6 minutes gave Aylesbury the collywobbles, but Greg Williams equalised just before the break. The second half belonged to Craig “hit-man “ Henney as he scored yet another hat trick (two from the penalty spot) – this one inside 9 minutes – to secure the vital victory and cue the celebrations. Henney’s third goal was his 52nd of the season.
