New manager, new team, new surroundings and there were a lot of things to be happy about especially the attacking play during the 1st half.

The two mistakes which led to the goal (poor free kick, weakly conceded corner)were needless. These wouldnt have bee so important if we had converted one of the many gilt edged chances we had in that 1st half.

I think Guildford will be very lucky to finish mid table

What does that say from an AFC point of view? We will also be lucky to finish to above mid-table? Or we will beat teams like them most days and were unlucky to lose?

We will only beat teams like that when we score goals and yesterday (along with the PSFs) suggest that is the main area of concern for the new season.

Same ol same ol,
can't bloody finish for toffee,we so need an all out striker.Brian's ok for a set piece maker, but we just cant hope that craig comes on late
to save the day after all he is the manager.I just hope like every AFC Fan he can find a good finisher before to long. And what was up
with our keeper.Im sure even i could have saved the first goal that went in,HE DIDNT EVEN BLOODY TRY.[MUST DO BETTER PAL].
Most bemused,
LORD L. [season ticket holder].

Thinking about it, that sums it up very well TT.
Not quite understanding what LL means by "Brian's ok for a set piece maker" & as for "what was up with our keeper." come on LL you know! (he will get a few assists this year.)
"but we just cant hope that Craig comes on late to save the day"
Isn't that's his role? I'm expecting him to score one for almost every hour(3X 20 mins)he plays. cheers

Overall some nice football played and we had opportunities early in the game that we should have put away. I do worry where the goals will come from which was also a concern last year but generally not too disappointed after the first game.

Though the MC was very good Basketball

DB, it appears that most speccies so far think AFC will struggle for goals this season and you seem to be the only chap who doesnt see this. Must be a different view from your side of the ground.

Ok, here's my view on it, We need 70+ goals to be in with a shout of the play offs. This is working on an attacking 4-4-2 basis
which over a season = 4x42 attacking roles = 168 appearances for the season.
(1 sub a game would add another 42 to appearances)
first two numbers are last years figures/AFC career(I've put Faulkners subs in brackets,I didn't think it was a true reflection & O'Sullivans is from Northwood) (app show below total 176)( I've doubled everyones appearances & goals)
Faulconbridge Apps 17 gls 5 17x2 = 34 5x2= 10
Blake 20 6 40 12
Faulkner 14(7)3 28 6
Haule 17 5 34 10
O'Sullivan 20 4 40 8
substitute 0 34 ?
total 46
Nobodys figures really set the world alight last season so if they could squeeze another 2 each (which doesn't really sound like I'm asking for a lot does it?)that would bring it to 56, 14 needed & I still have the 34 substitute positions & the rest of the team to find that, which shouldn't be too hard should it ?

Or for those that cant understand the above, I think we can average almost 2 goals a game cheers

Not sure about us relying on Craig coming on late in the game, with his knowledge & experiance, I'd like to see him on from the start.....
At this level, he should, and is more than capable of bossing a game. Sit him just in front of Brian and let him spray or flick the ball on for Brian to run onto.
Last Saturday we were hoofing the ball in the air to Brian and expecting him to flick it on himself and chase it too.

I say let Wally run it from the sideline and Craig can run it on the Pitch.
With 2 games gone and 2 defeats, what have we got to lose........?

Start him, bring him on, I have no problem with any combination, headers, holding the ball up, speed freaks, fox in the box, penalty winners, dead ball specialists, we have it all in the squad. But unfortunately when any formations are not quite working right they do look disjointed, if we had put Guildford to the sword,(which we should have done) we would all be saying what a good team we had, and I think it was fair to say we could have taken the lead against Burnham, & who knows where that would have taken us in the game? Burnham looked like a top eight team to me.
From the match report,
"Craig led from the front and it was his header that narrowly missed the post after just five minutes. In response Burnham’s Kieron Knight released a snapshot that FC keeper Simeon Charles did well to save. Midway through the first half and Wayne O’Sullivan delivered a quality ball from the left which Ryan Blake blazed over the bar when a goal seemed a certainty."

I have faith in our reporter, he may be a bit negative at times but normally he is there or there abouts. I have seen him and his oppo conferring over incidents & I know he talks into a machine, facts are facts. Wink
